Evony General Margaret of Valois

Margaret of Valois — the Valois princess history remembers as Queen Margot — is one of Evony's duty officer generals and a strong candidate for the Research Factory Officer role. This guide covers her background, skills, how to obtain her, and how she stacks up against Stephen the Great.

Born in 1553 to King Henry II of France and Catherine de' Medici, Margaret of Valois grew up at the center of one of Europe's most turbulent courts. Religious conflict and political intrigue defined her childhood, and they would follow her throughout her life.

In 1572, she married Henry of Navarre in an attempt to ease tensions between Catholics and Protestants. The wedding drew Protestant nobles to Paris, but the celebrations quickly turned to catastrophe — the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre erupted, Henry was forced to convert, and the couple found themselves confined to the Louvre.

Her troubles continued when she fell out with her brother, King Henry III, and was exiled to Auvergne. There, she carved out a degree of independence, managing local affairs on her own terms. With no children and years of separation behind them, Henry — by then King of France — eventually sought a divorce.

After the annulment, Margaret kept her queenly title and returned to Paris in 1605. She spent her later years writing her Memoirs, a vivid account of court life during the Wars of Religion. Alexandre Dumas later immortalized her in his novel, cementing her legacy as Queen Margot.

Margaret of Valois vs. Stephen the Great

Both generals can serve as Research Factory Officers, but they suit different playstyles.

Bottom line: Stephen the Great is the better choice for defensive players — his buffs are heavily weighted toward in-city troops. Margaret of Valois suits offensive players, with most of her buffs applying to troops in attack mode. She also edges ahead on research speed and offers broader buffs that cover all four troop types without restriction.
